How posting to a Telegram channel works
Telegram does not let outside tools post as you. Channel posts from a scheduler go through a bot, and that bot needs the right permissions in the channel.
The bot must be a channel admin
Open the channel's administrator settings and add the bot with permission to post messages. Without that permission every send fails. This is the most common cause of a Telegram connection error.
Public and private channels
Enter the channel's @username, or its numeric chat ID, including the leading minus sign, for a private channel. Public channels get a link to the published message. Private channels may not expose one, so the post status shows the result without a link.
Text is sent as written
Postial does not apply Telegram's Markdown or HTML formatting, so asterisks and underscores appear exactly as typed. Links in the text stay as links.
Long posts and images
Up to 4096 characters
Telegram allows 4096 characters per text message, and Postial counts an attached link in that total. Longer drafts are flagged before scheduling.
Captions over 1024 characters
Telegram limits image captions to 1024 characters. Postial puts the first part on the image and sends the remaining text as a separate message right after it.
Albums of up to four images
Postial sends up to four images per post as an album with the caption on the first image. Telegram allows ten, but Postial's composer stops at four.
How to schedule Telegram channel posts with Postial
1. Create the bot
Message @BotFather, send /newbot and follow the prompts. Copy the bot token it gives you.
2. Make it a channel admin
In the channel's settings, add the bot as an administrator with permission to post messages.
3. Connect and confirm
In Postial, open the client's brand, choose Connect a channel → telegram, paste the token and enter the @username or chat ID. Check that the displayed channel is the right one.
4. Schedule and check the channel
Write the post, add images, pick a time in the brand's timezone and save. After it is sent, the post status shows the result and, for public channels, the message link.
What Postial does not do on Telegram
- It posts to channels through a bot. It does not post as your personal account.
- It does not send video, polls or files. Images only.
- It does not apply Telegram formatting or pin messages.
- It does not deliver Postial's own alerts over Telegram. Team notifications go to Slack, Discord or Mattermost.
- If Telegram's response is unclear, Postial marks the post as needs review instead of resending, because the message may already be in the channel.

Frequently asked questions
Why does my Telegram connection fail?
Check three things: the bot token is current, the chat ID or @username is correct (private channel IDs start with a minus sign), and the bot is an admin with permission to post messages.
What does needs review mean for a Telegram post?
Telegram's reply was uncertain, so the message may or may not have arrived. Postial never retries this automatically. Look at the channel first, then choose Retry or Skip. See publishing reliability.
What if the text after the image caption fails?
The images and caption are already published. Postial shows a warning. Send the remaining text manually instead of reposting the whole post, or the images will appear twice.
Can I schedule posts for several clients' channels?
Yes. Connect each channel to its client's brand. Starter includes 3 brands and Agency 15. Each brand has its own timezone, so 9:00 means 9:00 for that client.
Can a client approve Telegram posts first?
On Agency, yes. The client opens a review link, sees the text, images and schedule, and approves or asks for changes without a Postial account. See client approval.
